Doing It All & Making Time for Your Dreams
"I don't have time for this," I muttered.
Okay, sure looking back, it wasn't my best "adulting" move. As the rain continued to pour into our laundry room, however, I had a choice: continue to stand in a puddle or leave for work. New roofs cost money, so I shoved the towels in William's hands and left.
As I drove to work, I began thinking about the expression, "We make time for things that are important to us." A small sense of guilt began to grow, until I thought, "Actually, we make time for things that are important to us, or we find an alternative way to get them done."
Each day we are asked to split our time between 100 important tasks, causes, and relationships. For the most part, we have gotten really good at learning how to manage.
We hire nannys, assistants, and housecleaners.
We swing by the drive thru or meal prep for the week ahead.
We order boxes of clothes/food/razors/dog toys/literally everything because who has time to wait in line?
We podcast and answer email on the treadmill.
We manage and multitask. When something goes array, we make the time or make a plan.
Except when it comes to our dreams & desires.
You see, most of us are so busy managing our very full present, we toss aside our dreams to "one day." We comfort ourselves with the idea, "I'm too busy now, but one day, I will..."
But, friend, the reason you have not lost the weight, changed careers, or written the book for 5 years now is because "one day" isn't going to come. "One day" is stuck in the future until we claim the importance of our desire and dreams.
I know to be true: Your dreams are equally as important as your current realities. You can accomplish your desires when you stake a claim in them. You do have the time and know how to make it. Today is a better place to start than "one day."
So let's change the conversation! Repeat after me: "My time is limited, but this is important and I will find the time or make a plan."
You can do this. You find the time or make a plan for everything else that is important to you and your family. So allow me to let you in on a secret: you pursuing your goals is not only important for you, it is crucial for your friends, family, and world.
Today is a great day to begin and take a first step. Take that walk. Write down your thoughts. Research about building a non-profit. Apply for that program. Simply begin & begin simply.
